The Sylvester Post Office on Main Street has a New Deal mural, "Cantaloupe Industry" painted in 1939 by Chester J. Tingler.

According to 2000 Census, the City of Sylvester had a population of 5,990 persons. Between 1990 and 2000, the city experienced a population decrease of -0.5%, compared to the state growth during this period of 26.4%.
